Do teenage Squatches doorbell ditch?
My teenagers love to doorbell ditch. Quite frankly I think it is stupid and can’t for the life of me remember why I loved doing it so much when I was a teenager myself. It is clearly an adolescent thing, maybe the supposed danger, getting away with something, being sneaky or simply the adrenaline rush.
Like most of my Bigfoot musings I have many swirling thoughts that are unrelated, confusing and don’t really fit anywhere. Recently I had a few of these random thoughts come together to lay out a possible scenario.
There is an area we have been researching that seems to be a very active area. The amount of published and unpublished reports in this concentrated area is staggering. Our personal experiences are impressive and unusual in that the squatches in this area really seem to like making a whole bunch of noise, both tree knocks and vocalizations. Far more than anywhere else I’ve ever been. The area has all of the requirements to support squatches, plenty of game, thick cover and water, but so does the surrounding area for a hundred miles. So I have asked myself several times why this specific spot?
A coincidence provided a possible answer. While on a private expedition a tremendous amount of squatch noise was heard and recorded. What was the coincidence? A pair of experienced backpackers in the exact area submitted a report for me to investigate about strange vocalizations they heard in the middle of the night. They were in the same area and same time frame. The next morning they found a fresh footprint, and from their description it sounds like an adolescent squatch print. In talking to the witness, who has extensive outdoor and wildlife experience throughout the country, he asked why they would be in this area. I expressed my frustration and explained I didn’t know because there was nothing different about this spot than a thousand different areas. After a short pause he said “maybe it’s a denning area.”
Now a couple of the random thoughts started to drift towards each other. I remembered the best daylight sighting was of a smaller squatch, the backpackers had found a small footprint and there are always lots and lots of obnoxious noise all night long keeping people awake.
They must be freakin teenagers! And they are probably doorbell ditching the dorky humans.
Now if my campsite ever gets toilet papered, I know I’m right.
This was a very weird weekend. We started out by getting chased by thunderstorms on the pass, to spending out first night hovering in our tents as the lightning struck all around us. We had a nice Saturday, fishing and hiking. That day we saw horse campers settle in the meadow next to where we had put up shop. That night we heard what could only be described as a combination of a woman screaming and howling if you can imagine such a thing. What was particularly alarming for me is the horses in the next meadow camped were uneasy all evening. I heard their riders more than once go over and try to calm them down. We finally got tired and crashed out. The next day on the way out it was dropping gropple on us, which is snow like pellets, and it was cold as hell. We saw what looked like a bare foot track in the mud, and were both puzzled at who would be running around in bare feet in these temps? I have heard recordings and they sound a lot like what we heard. I have had multiple experiences which were not normal for the wilderness. This was one of them, a weekend which will play over and over again in my mind.
